Please think of adopting before buying. There are tons of German Shepherds being
euthanized in shelters everyday!
The Pros of Adoption
- You are saving a life.
- Adult dogs are generally housebroken and past the chewing phase.
- Dogs adopted from rescues have all their shots, have been tested for
heartworm, and have been altered.
- Adult dogs will already have their set personalities.
- Adopted dogs will bond to their new owners just as a purchased puppy
would, regardless of age.
- There are plenty of puppies available in rescue, so if you don't want to
start out with an older dog, you have that option as well.
The Cons of Adoption
- You will often be unsure of the dog's personal history.
- You will often be unsure of the dog's medical history.
- If you plan on participating in competitive dog events, your options may
be more limited due to lack of registration, altering status, and finding
the correct temperament and drive in a dog so that it may excel in the sport
you choose.
- Older dogs may have habits that may be harder to break. However, old
dogs CAN learn new tricks and respond to training very well. It is
recommended with any new dog, purchased or rescue, old or young, that you
start obedience training right away!
Those are some things you may want to consider before choosing to rescue, and
with all that said, we can end with saying: RESCUE'S RULE!!!
